Stories of Ben Ali
I've been out all week, so I wasn't around to stop by. Very sorry to hear about your dad.
Although I only actually met him once, he had a profound
effect on the quality of all of our lives here in DC...but me, in a personal
way, with both my business & family you guys have always felt like family to us...although I
suspect most people you know feel that way I first started going there during the Metro rubble, when
13th & U was a good place to buy drugs, not hot dogs...but Ben's was the
real deal and made you feel like you had found the soul of DC if you made the
effort you watched my kids grow up as I brought them there on
the way home from museums and downtown outings, and became an important part of
life in DC to them...so now Ben's has been embedded into the fabric of their
generation and, of course, I would stop by while we were building
the 930 Club and we shared the anticipation & excitement of the
possibilities of a genuine comeback for DC and then the 50th birthday...hey wait that was my 50th
too...how did this happen anyway, lots of stories of course...might be a good time
to have you guys out to our place and serve you for a change!
In fact, that's a good idea...why don't you let me know
what days are good for you...and see if your Mom would like to come over as
well (no pork!) speaking of Mom...please give her a hug and tell her how
sorry I am and that we have been thinking of her anyway, as I read the articles (front page!) about how
important Ben's is to DC, I just kind of drift off and think of how important
it is to me, and I am grateful for men like your father who helped make DC what
it is today and gave us all the faith that it would come back...and then I
think of how privileged I am to know your family and feel a part of it...he
raised some truly nice human beings who are making DC great today let's get together soon...let me know when's good.
Love you guys,
-Seth-
